ReStore Volunteer

The Habitat Restore operates on volunteer power! We need friendly and helpful people who want to participate in our mission. Knowledge of building materials and mechanical systems a plus. Team members are needed in the following areas:

Donation pick-up assistant: assist in loading and unloading donations
Appliance repair: clean and test appliances, identify model numbers
Furniture construction and repair: clean and recondition furniture
Sales: assist customers with purchases
Merchandise detective: figure out donated items' age, material, value
Cashier: must have cheerful deposition, remain calm, and pass a background check
How old do you have to be: 16 years’ old
What should I wear: closed toe shoes, comfortable but neat clothing, after you volunteer 8 hours or more you will receive a Volunteer Tee Shirt. We are CDC compliant, but will provide masks and latex gloves if needed.

The Habitat Restore offers you an opportunity to interact with people and to assist working families striving for home ownership.

Construction Volunteer Information

How old do you have to be? To work on our construction site, you must be at least 16 years old, but will not be able to operate power tools until age 18.
Do I need experience? No! All skill levels are welcome. Our trained staff will help you along the way.
What are the work hours? Sites are open Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30am to 12:30pm. We recommend that you arrive by 8:15am your first time so that you can hear the safety briefing & orientation.
What type of work will I be doing? Nearly early facet of home construction including: framing, painting, landscaping and more. If you have any particular skills, please let our Site Supervisor know at the briefing. Also if you are not comfortable doing any particular task, just let the supervisor know. They will find something for you to do.
What should I wear? It is important that you wear closed toe shoes (NO FLIP FLOPS PLEASE) and comfortable breathable work clothes that you don't mind getting paint on.
Do I need to bring anything? You can bring a lunch, a completed liability form and if you have any work gloves bring those as well. We provide all the tools and hard hats and water on site. We are also CDC compliant and have masks and latex gloves if needed.
Where are the build sites located? We build all over Martin County!

Commitee Member Positions:

Homeowner Support Committee

Financial Mentor

Our Homebuyer Education Program provides 3 sessions of individual financial counseling to our future Habitat homeowners.

We are seeking volunteers (English speaking and bilingual) who have any experience in banking or financial planning. The financial mentor works approximately one hour per session individually with a prospective homeowner.

VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE

The volunteer committee will combine several of Habitat's volunteer-based programs. The goal is to create an expanded vision of volunteer service that will allow volunteers to help increase Habitat's scale and building capacity.

HOMEOWNER SELECTION COMMITTEE

This committee is responsible for evaluating potential Habitat homeowners, based on the Habitat for Humanity of Martin County criteria and requirements. Members recommend qualified applicants to the Board of Directors for final approval.

We are also seeking a volunteer Mortgage Loan officer to underwrite the homeownership applications which are reviewed prior to the committee meetings. Committee meets the 2nd Monday of each month from 8:30 am to 9:30 am.

FAITH ENGAGEMENT OUTREACH COMMITTEE

The primary task of the faith relations outreach team is to build long-lasting relationships with the churches. A faith relations outreach team member is responsible for:

approaching individuals about involving their churches in Habitat work.
suggesting partnership possibilities that seem appropriate for the ministry goals of various churches.
supporting church leaders with promotional materials, making presentations to churches, answering questions and offering encouragement to church leaders.

HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE

This committee is for those volunteers who can make construction volunteers feel at home when they arrive. This committee is responsible for:

arriving on the construction job site to welcome volunteers
directing volunteers to the sign-in sheets
making sure everyone is greeted and receive adequate direction
locating interested people or groups to prepare meals such as chili, sandwiches, or just buy pizza to build the spirit of hospitality and community at our job sites on Saturdays.

GUIDELINES FOR GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERS (NON-SPONSOR)

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us. We count on the support of individuals and groups to meet our home-building objectives. Through the help of volunteers, we have completed more than 90 homes throughout the county.

Schools, Churches and Civic Groups:
Schools, churches and civic groups are asked to partner with Habitat for Humanity through the volunteer department. Habitat purchases all construction materials and supplies needed for each house. We do look to our community to help us cover the cost of construction. We apply for grants and other state and local funding, but they do not always cover all expenses.

Habitat for Humanity of Martin County asks that a group help fundraise for a build day. Please review our group participation guidelines for schools, churches, or civic groups for more information on coordinating a Day of Service with Habitat for Humanity of Martin County.

Corporate Day of Giving Volunteer Program:
Businesses and corporations are also asked to partner with Habitat for Humanity through the volunteer department. Volunteering is the easiest and most effective way to show that your company cares about the community. Workday Schedule:
Apart from holidays, special occasions, and group scheduling, work sites are open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday of every week. Our day begins at 8:30 a.m. with a safety orientation and devotion, and ends at 12:30 p.m.
