Habitat for Humanity of Martin County’s 2012
Women Build Kickoff and Building Blocks Luncheon

Habitat for Humanity of Martin County kicked off its 2012 Women Build program with a special "Building Blocks Luncheon” and shopping event on Oct. 12 at Harbour Bay Plaza in Sewall’s Point. The event raised $5,000 – a solid foundation for 2012 Women Build home – and a step toward the fundraising goal of $100,000.
Before the luncheon, each attendee had the unique opportunity to buy items needed to complete the 2012 Women Build home. The shopping list included all the necessary "building blocks,” from footer concrete, paint and roofing nails to doors, cabinets and appliances. The luncheon and presentation included guest speaker Sharon Hoyle Weber, author of Hot in the Pot, A Survival Guide for the Real You in the Corporate World. Sharon is a corporate training facilitator, speaker and author who teaches everything that has to do with people working effectively and passionately together. "We are so grateful for the opportunity to lead our fifth Women Build for a very special family,” said Mary Jones, director of volunteer services at Habitat for Humanity of Martin County. "We’re thrilled with the community support at our recent luncheon. Attendees purchased a variety of items – even the kitchen sink – to help cover the cost of construction for the Sanchez Family’s home. We also made many new friends who have pledged to volunteer their time on the construction site. Because of their generosity, we’re off to a great start in funding our 2012 Women Build.”
The 2012 Women Build home will be a four-bedroom model, built for the Sanchez family in the new Indiantown community of Carter Park. Construction is scheduled to begin in February and the Sanchez family will contribute to Habitat’s sweat equity requirement of 300 volunteer hours. They will purchase the home with a no-profit loan and their monthly mortgage payments will be used to build more Habitat homes.
